Flower Snippers
Industrial Design
2022
I was briefed by the in-house new product development team at Kent & Stowe to support the brand by developing a new ergonomic set of flower snippers.
I designed the new product around a pre-existing hub mechanism, to fit with Kent & Stowe's product lineup as an ownable asset for the brand. I began with sketches and followed with CAD models, prototypes and Design For Manufacture drawings.
The handles are cast in aluminium, post processed and over-moulded with micro grip textured silicone rubber for comfort.
Opportunity
The pre-existing flower snippers the brand sold were tired and outdated, the product was off the shelf and used by other brands. The brand's other products had a new design language and there was the opportunity to transfer it into the snippers while also creating a best in class product.
Solution
The resulting product design features overmoulded grips and an ergonomic, human centred form developed through prototyping and testing. The product has had a very positive impact for the brand with a presence in most garden centres nationwide and highly rated professional reviews online.
